Cross the Current strategy: time the traffic, ride the current and fill every bay

How hopping, traffic, logs, turtles, eels and the home bays work, how close calls score, and how to survive the Riptide.

Hop on the rhythm of the lane

Each hop takes a fifth of a second, and one more hop can be queued while you are in the air. Watch the lane you are about to enter, not the one you are in: hop just after a vehicle passes, and you land with the whole gap ahead of you. Landing right beside a vehicle is a close call, and a streak of them builds your combo.

Rest on the median

The median and the start row are safe ground. Use them to read the river before you go: which way each lane flows, where the logs are and which turtle groups are about to dive (they flicker first).

Ride, do not drift

On the river you move with whatever you are standing on. Riding off the edge of the board costs a life, so hop sideways along a log toward the middle when you get close to the side. Eels are safe to ride, but their head bites. Missing a platform is a splash.

Line up the bays

The five bays at the top must each be filled to clear the level; landing beside a bay, or in one that is already full, costs a life. Ride the top row until your critter lines up with an open bay, then hop. A home pays more with the time left on the clock, and every new row you reach on a crossing pays too.

The Riptide

Every fifth level the river reverses every ten seconds (the water flashes red just before) and a long hauler joins the road. Do not commit to a long ride just before a reversal. Fill all five bays for a big bonus and a life back.
